Pennies from Heaven

Monday night the teachers of Chilton ISD were given a steak dinner for their accomplishments during last year in making Chilton a "Recognized School". For those outside the education realm, this rating is given each year by Texas Education Agency. There are 4 catagories: Low Performing, Acceptable, Recognized and Exemplery. Well for Falls County that is a big deal. Rosebud-Lott, Marlin were Acceptable; Westphalia and Chilton received the Recognized. So the school board gave the returning teachers this dinner and a proclamation was read by the board president. Then she said the school board would like to give each returning teacher a
$1000. Well you could hear the gasps and chokes. It was good that I wasn't eating steak because I might have choked!!! I could not believe what was happening. I had taught at R-L for 30 years and never received a thank you and sure not any $$$$$. I went to each board member to express my appreciation as did all of the other teachers. I am deciding what to do with my windfall. So far a few ideas have come my way........
